Context
After one Seidu Abagri was recently sworn in as the rival Chief of Bawku at Nalerigu on February 15, this year, tensions in the Bawku municipality reached a new high. This led to the meeting.
Nonetheless, the government denounced the behavior in a statement released by the Ministry of Information on February 15, 2023.
According to the statement, any action likely to jeopardize the peace and security of the Bawku municipality will be taken right away in compliance with the State's laws.
Due to severe battles between Kusasi and Mamprusi youth in the Bawku neighborhood, which left some locals dead and destroyed property, the area has received significant attention in recent security discourse.
Due of the potential for the Bawku area in the Upper East Region to be used as a launchpad for assaults inside the nation by terrorist groups in neighboring Burkina Faso, the security community has taken the problems there seriously.
