The current winner of the GJA award for best investigative and female journalist of the year declared that it is utterly improper to use money to lure individuals into testifying against a corrupt official.

At a discussion with several aspiring journalists on Tuesday at the Ghana Institute of Journalism's (GIJ) Ringway campus in Accra, Mrs. Enchill said that the best way to start an investigation is by naturally participating.

"If you identify any person or organization that you want to investigate, you need to move to them in a natural way by participating, and if they are corrupt as you detected, they will show it to you. But it is totally wrong to trap them because they may be going through certain challenges at that time, including a desperate need for money that they cannot refuse at that time," she said.

When asked if undercover journalists are allowed to violate certain ethical standards in their field of work, Mrs. Enchill replied in the affirmative, claiming that doing so is in the public's interest.

While it is prohibited to surreptitiously record someone and broadcast it or to breach their privacy, investigative journalists are legally permitted to transgress some regulations, she said.
