The UK government's Department for Education (DfE) has launched a new service called 'Apply for Qualified Teacher Status in England,' which is aimed towards international instructors.
The service's goal is to evaluate the credentials and experience of foreign instructors who want to work in the United Kingdom.
According to the Department for Education, under current EU and national regulations, some foreign teachers can easily receive QTS while others with comparable abilities and experience cannot.
The new legislation, on the other hand, will ensure a fair and uniform approach, as well as facilitate the entry of talented instructors into the English education system.
The department also announced the priority topics for immigrants, including Nigerians, who desire to come to the UK to teach beginning in February 2023 through the Teaching Regulation Agency.
Applicants from Nigeria will be eligible to utilize the service beginning February 1, 2023, if they have subject specialties in languages, mathematics, or science and a teaching certificate to teach 11 to 16-year-olds.
Priority topics in English public schools, according to the DfE, are those that need a level 6 teaching certification and a bachelor's degree in mathematics, science, or language (excluding English).
Applicants from other countries: Those with a teaching qualification from Australia, Canada, the European Union, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United States will be able to use the service to determine their eligibility for Qualified Teacher Status and apply.
Take notice of the priority subjects: The DfE selected French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish as priority subjects, omitting English.
It did, however, add that an update on other topic specializations will be provided by May.
